We have been providing I.T. support and training to business for over twenty years. I have supported countless software’s for retail, wholesale, distribution and manufacturing. Maintaining a healthy computer and data environment is crucial for business. This is especially true today with all the data breaches, malware and virus that we must protect ourselves from. These are some of my recommendations.
- Backups: Most small business do not have an IT department, so it is a must to have a good back up plan. I recommend backing up everyday to a good backup device and or the cloud. You can purchase an external hard drive that is easy to configure for under $100. I have a 50 gigabyte apple cloud that is $.99 per month, we use this method with our business. Another good rule is if you are not backing up to a cloud drive is backup at least once a week to a portable device and take it home with you. If your business were to burn or flood you would have your data.
- Anti-Virus and anti-malware: What are the differences between malware and virus? Malware is any malicious software that is specifically designed to breach your identity, steal your information or otherwise gain access to private details. A computer virus is a software program that can spread from one computer to another and cause interference’s with computer operations. A computer virus has the capacity to corrupt or to delete data on your computer. It is critical to keep anti-virus and anti-malware definitions up to date. I use and recommend Malwarebytes Premium Edition
- Updates: Often I get support calls for point of sale or accounting software’s flaking out or not opening at all. The first thing I do is check for windows updates. When windows updates are pending or not installed it can cause lots of different issues. On a side note keep your operating system current, if you are on Windows 7, it is now unsupported. Also, it is important to keep all updates installed on your point of sale and accounting software’s
